Keep Those Summer AC Bills in Check

Summers in Westchester, NY can be surprisingly hot and muggy, and your air conditioner needs to perform every day in order to keep your house cool and comfortable. But doing so can cost you an arm and a leg in monthly bills, and even raises the specter of a breakdown, resulting in a very expensive repair bill. You can keep those summer bills in check with a few handy tips. Some of them you can do completely on your own, while others require the services of a professional. We’ve provided a brief list of them below.

  • A Maintenance Session. Maintenance sessions are designed to improve overall performance and get an early jump on any repair issues that may be looming. We recommend scheduling repairs twice a year, at the beginning and the end of the summer, but if you haven’t scheduled a session yet in 2016, now is a great time to do so.
  • Weather Stripping. Weather stripping can be placed around cracks surrounding your doors or windows. That keeps cool air from escaping and helps your home retain air more effectively.
  • Thermostat Settings. Most people know that they can set their thermostat to 78 degrees instead of 75 degrees and cut into their bills dramatically. If you run your system all day to an empty house, you might also use the programming feature to turn the system on 20 minutes before you expect to arrive home. The house will still be cool and you can save a huge amount on monthly bills to boot.
  • Use the Fan. Blowing air helps keep you cool and if you have a ceiling fan or even a table-top fan, you can run it to help move the air through your home and make things feel less oppressively hot.

Call Yost & Campbell Heating, Cooling and Generators to schedule an AC maintenance session.
